Frequently asked Questions

Puppies:

Q) When can I get one of your puppies?

A) We are by no means a puppy mill and never crank out litter after litter. So,
when we do have puppies available, they usually go pretty fast but, to the right
people. If you want one of our puppies, you may have to wait. As I always say,
"Good things come to those who wait"! When the puppies reach 7-8 weeks old,
that's when they can go home with you.

Q) What if you don't have any puppies now?

A) If we don't have any left, we do have a waiting list that I can put your name
on. We can also reserve a puppy that is already born for a $100 deposit. Then
you get a pick depending on what spot you have on our waiting list. Sometimes,
I can point you to a breeder that has puppies available. They may have what you
are looking for.

Q) What do I need to send you a deposit for?!

A) When you make a deposit on a puppy, you are telling us you are truely
serious about one of our puppies. If you are still looking, let us know so that we
can help the others on the list. The deposit amount is $100 that will less the
purchase price. That $100 will prove, the puppy you picked, is yours.

Q) Why Are Your Puppies More Expensive?

A) Because it is more expensive to produce them. The higher quality dog we
breed, the more expensive it is to produce quality puppies. It takes a lot of time,
money, patience, and dedication to producing high quality dogs. It is all about
thinking about the quality of life the puppy will have as well as the quality the
puppy is.
We don't have to produce, healthy, happy cockers, we just choose to!

Q)I want to start breeding puppies and Cockers, can you provide me
with a good quality puppy for breeding? I will pay you a lot for it!

A) No. We will never sell a puppy soley for breeding. I am not in this for the
money, I am in it because of passion. It is not fair to the dog to just sit in a
kennel all day long and be bred time after time. I just won't do it.

Colors:

Q) What colors do you usually have? Because, I am interested in a Buff

A) Sorry, we don't breed Buffs or solids of any kind. All of our cockers are of
the parti variety, which means they are white with different colored spots. We
usually have red and white parti, black and white parti, and possible chocolate
parti.

Shipping:

Q) Why don't you ship?

A) The reason we don't ship is because I have heard of dogs getting over stressed
during the flight and having a heart attack, going into shock, dying, or getting
ill on the plane. In planes, they put the dog in cargo below the plane. Below
there is very cold and noisy. There have also been cases of a dog being lost or
stolen and then they end up in a pound or they are abused. There was a
Champion dog that was "dog-napped" at O'Hare Airport in Chicago and was
never found. Too many horror stories to mention!

Q) I live all the way in (country). Can I get one of your puppies?

A) Sorry, no. We don't ever sell puppies out of the country. It's just not for us.
We want to keep them here, in the US so that we know they are okay and so we
know where they are. If I sell a puppy out of the US, I won't know if it is a
puppy mill, or just a good home.

Health and Health Testing:

Q) Are your dogs and puppies all healthy?

A) We try to produce healthy dogs, I try to give them the best food and give
them a clean and healthy environment. I always get my new puppies and adults
vet checked before letting them go or letting the parents be bred.

Q) What about Health Testing? Do you do that?

A) Of course! We have some of the best lines so we want to keep it that way.
Some of the testing we do is, CERF,  (Canine Eye Registration Foundation),
which is eye testing to look at such things as cataracts and glaucoma, and many
other bad things like that. You cannot tell by the lines if the dog has cataracts.
Another one we do is OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals), which is
testing for the hips for things such as hip dysplasia and other things.  All this
testing is very important and is done prior to breeding and must pass.

Q) What is your policy on a puppy I can't have anymore or if the puppy
get's sick?

A) Our policy (as stated in the contract) is as follows.
If you cannot care for a puppy anymore, you MUST bring it back to me with all
papers, vet checks, and vaccination records. As well as the name and location of
your vet.
You have
48 hours to take your new puppy to the vet to get it checked out and
make sure it is healthy. After that, I have no responsibility of the puppy
whatsoever. If the puppy checks out un-healthy, you will get your money back
and possible replacement of the puppy. Note: the examined puppy must be
brought back to me.

AKC, and the Papers:

Q) You gave me my AKC papers but I can't find them?

A) Sometimes things do happen to your papers like, a spill happens or the dog
chews it up or anything. You can request a copy of your papers through AKC, it
takes about 7-10 days after my order is filled for you to receive them. The total
cost for this is about $45.00.

Q) Are Your Dogs all AKC Registered?

A) Yes! I do not register with any other registration. AKC has higher standards
to things such as the standard of the breed and care, for the puppies and also
certain rules for puppy care I as a breeder must follow. That is why most people
feel comfortable buying a puppy from a breeder that does infact register with
the AKC.

The Dangers of Buying a Pet Store Puppy:

Q) I have never had a dog from a breeder before, only the pet stores
and they have all needed major Vet care. What is the difference?

A) There are so many reasons not to buy a puppy from a pet store. I will name as
many as I can. 1) You do not know what the background is, nor do you know
who or what the parents are. 2) You don't know what kind of health problems
are in the lines of the puppy, and you don't get a pedigree to find out. 3) Where
did that puppy come from? You don't know. Yes, it came from a pet store but
where was it before that? Most puppies at pet stores are bought off of Puppy
Mills and Pet Brokers. NOT GOOD, that is only supporting the puppy mills so
they can keep producing badly bred dogs. 4) Were the parents OFAed and
CERFed? You don't know. What if that puppy has cataracts behind it? Or even
worse, hip dysplasia? You don't know. 5) Is your puppy healthy? They say it is
but when you get it home, is it? You don't know. Yes, all puppies are cute but it
is so important to have a healthy puppy. 6) You have to keep with the vet they
give you to get discounts. You can't go to any other vet. 7) Why is there only a
30 day health guarantee on pet store puppies? Because, they don't know for sure
if it is healthy.  8) All the puppies at the pet stores, are kept in little tiny crates
all the time that are changed only once a day. SMELLY!!! That is not good for
the brain development of the puppy. If you hold a puppy from a pet store, it is
either hyper, shy, mean, wild, dumb, too  thin, or sick. This is why I think
socialization in my puppies, and being held by everyone including strangers, is
so important. 9) Every person I know that has bought a puppy from a pet store,
says he/she had kennel cough a week or so after bringing it home. The vet bills
for this can be very high, including shots, and spay/neutering. It is very costly.
10) You can pay up to $1,000 for a cocker in a pet store, and what do you get?
Everything I have said above. 11) Since they are kept in tiny crates, they are
barely ever let outside, how hard is potty training going to be if it has never
seen the grass?
